And July’s hexagon flowers arrived from Lynette, they are so pretty.  Lynette included an extra hexagon with a little dog on it, she has a die cut so she included some extra papers._DSC0540

I’m all caught up with sending flowers now, I just have to make July’s, which I will do today or tomorrow.

  • This great french general fabric arrived today…

I haven’t decided what I will make from it…just add it to my small collection of French General fabrics…

Also included were this little stack of squares…

  • Wow…it’s ages since I updated my blog..I don’t mean to neglect it, but the day just gets away and I haven’t taken any photos or thought about what I wanted to say.   I guess I’m just happy and occupied with the everyday things…

But I have been stitching and my aim is to finish some tops that have been in boxes and bags and have some more space in my sewing room.  I have moved things around in there and am much happy with my new arrangement.    My sewing machine is now under a window instead of looking at the wall, while I sew.

Anyway, here is a few quick pics of what I’ve been working on….

I keep thinking I should take out that brown fabric…but I do like it…not sure!   I know this quilt has a bitsy look but that is what I like about it, and it was a pleasure to make.  Looking at the pic now, maybe I should swap the middle and brown block over.

This quilt has raw edges, that will fray, around the flowers….I bought the pattern last year when I went to WA.

ImageAnd this folk quilt I started many years ago…it had swags in the border…but I decided to leave them off and just go with a plain border.  I think it was the swag border that first attracted me to the pattern but this way it is finished.

  • I am in a swap group organised by Maree…and the first swap for 2014 was a sew all/roll.  The only rule was for the Gail Pan stitchery to be on the front.

My sew all came from Carol…and it is wonderful

…inside there is lots of places for stitching supplies.

And Carol included lots of fun surprises…

    I love it…

  • Stitching on my current quilt project didn’t progress much over Christmas.  Our little quilt group met last Sunday so I got it out before going and have been working on it this week.  And this is where it’s at now…

    Image

There is three of us in the group making this quilt…and they will all be different…

After I put away the Christmas tree I have been spending some time rearranging the house…bought another lounge for the family room…which makes it much more comfortable.  Sorted out cupboards and gave to the op shop what wasn’t needed anymore.

Yesterday was our 39th wedding anniversary…we had lunch at a new Cafe that overlooks lighthouse beach…we spent so much of our teenage years on that beach.

We were 18 and 21…thought we knew it all…and it was the 70’s had to do things differently so a hat instead of a veil!

It’s raining today, after a few days of very hot temperatures. Image

  • Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas…santa has been and I’m waiting for someone to wake.

    Our youngest son is home…
Hope everyone has a wonderful day..

  • …these lovely hexagons arrived from Simone today!

    Image

    …and this beautiful card!

    Image

    …thanks Simone. I love them…

    Image

…and I’m just adding this picture because it’s Christmas colours, and I love these trees!   The enormous poinciana tree, next door is only just beginning to come out in flower.

  • morning out

We went for a drive to Mullumbimby, yesterday.

I bought an overlay for my sweet sixteen quilting machine, from a shop on the Gold Coast, called the Sewing Wave.  The owner was coming down to Mullum to do some work so he bought the overlay down with him…and I had to meet him to collect it.

So we had a morning in Mullum…it is such a friendly town…people in the street smile at you…the shop assistants are pleasant and helpful.

And I love going there because my Mum spent her teenage years living in Mullum…and I grew up with stories of  the town.  My grandparents had a Cafe  there…before they decided to go back to farming at Main Arm, which is just a little north.Image…my Grandparents house was in this pretty tree lined street.  The house is no longer there…a new house is built in it’s place.

    Image

And this is Mt Chincogan, an extinct volcano that is on the edge go the town.

We collected the overlay, went to the Timber Slab factory so Peter could buy some offcuts of exotic and native wood for his woodworking projects.  Then we had lunch at the Empire Cafe which has been there since he early days and had a look in the shops.

And the overlay is going to make a big difference to my sweet sixteen machine…it makes the table smooth and flat to use rulers with it.

  • …the Christmas tree is up.

    Image…a few presents wrapped.

Image…the wreath is on the front door.

Image…and a few other Christmas touches around the house.

I only like the Christmas decorations to be fairly simple….

I have spent the last few weeks tidying the house…sorting things, and generally reorganising.

Today I got out my hand stitched quilt to add some more hexagons to…after having a break from it I will have to get back in the mood of being obsessed with working on it.

  • I went to Rainbow patchwork, yesterday to buy some fabric for the inside border of the Anna Leven’s quilt by Marg Sampson George I’m currently working on.   The plan was to buy a grey background spot…but then I found this fabric called Paris Roses!

    Image

So there will be a hexagon border of the red flowers, a hexagon border of the stripe and then a solid border of the black flowers.  I was a little worried whether the pale fabrics would look too receding…then I decided to go with them anyway!

    Image

The only rule I had in choosing fabrics to use in this quilt is for them to be romantic looking.  It will be a different interpretation of the quilt when finished …I am enjoying working on it.   It’s both relaxing to stitch and a little challenging…

…we are about to have a thunder storm.  As I’m writing this post the sky is getting darker and the lightning and thunder coming closer.   The neighbours are hurrying to put their garbage bins out before the storm arrives.   Ours can wait till the storm passes…
